Octaman is a 1976 low budget horror film directed by Harry Essex. The waters off the coast of a small Mexican fishing village have turned radioactive. Scientists studying these waters come across a mutant species of octopuses that have human eyes and cry eerily like children. The scientists take several of the mutant octopuses out of the ocean to study. However this angers the half man, half octopus father of the baby octopuses who wants his children back. One of the scientists, Dr. Rick Torres (played by Kerwin Mathews), tries to sell one of the babies to a circus sideshow. This causes the octaman father to go on bloody rampage against the scientific team. This film is notable for having creature effects made by a young Rick Baker, years before becoming an Academy Award winning special effects artist for An American Werewolf in London. Footage from this film was later seen in Gremlins 2 which also had effects work by Rick Baker.moreless
