Oedipus Rex is a pre-war Italian Drama from Water Bearer Films that was written and directed by Pier Paolo Pasolini and alters the classic Greek tragedy originally written by Sophocles. The heat of the Moroccan desert is substituted with the pre-war streets of Bologna, Italy in this big screen, modern day portrayal. A young couple gives birth to a beautiful baby boy. The father, however, becomes increasing jealous of his new son because the child is stealing his wife's love away from him. To put an end to his jealousy, the father takes his son out to the desert to be killed. The child is rescued by the Queen and King of Corinth and is given the name Edipo (Franco Citti). The Queen and King raise Edipo as if he was their own and he lives a great life. That is until an oracle tells Edipo that he will one day kill his father and marry his mother. Out of sheer horror, Edipo flees Corinth and the oracle's prophecy only to encounter an older man traveling on the road and gets in a fight with him and ends up killing him.
