Oh, God! is a comedy adaptation of a novel by Avery Corman and directed by Carl Reiner. God (George Burns) manifests to assistant supermarket manager Jerry Landers (John Denver) in the form of an unassuming old man. After proving himself genuine through a sequence of hilarious miracles, God tells Jerry to serve as his prophet and go spread his simple message to a disbelieving populace: God lives. God Cares. Of course, this message is met with scorn, ridicule, and attempts to discredit and ruin poor Jerry's life. Losing his job, friends, and even doubted by his beautiful wife Bobbie (Teri Garr), Jerry struggles with his task as God's messenger, even being sued for slander by popular evangelicals seeking to dismiss Jerry's words. While a highly comedic film, Oh God! is also a thought-provoking examination of God, faith, humanity and the daily struggle to maintain hope. A contemplation on the nature of spirituality in a materialistic world, Oh God! is filled with meaningful messages about embracing humanity's differences and with a gentle message that somewhere, out there, we are all being watched and loved.moreless
