Oh, Susanna! is an American made Western musical that debuted in 1936 and is a black and white film. Gene Autry (Gene Autry) ends up on the wrong side of Wolf Benson (Boothe Howard) as Wolf is attempting to run from the law. Wolf jumps on to a trail where the unsuspecting Gene is a passenger until Wolf throws him off the moving train. Wolf then assumes Gene's identity and proceeds to rob and murder one of Gene's friends, Jefferson Lee (Carl Stockdale). The crime is blamed on the real Gene, instead of Wolf who actually committed it, and Gene is placed in jail. While in jail, Frog Millhouse (Smiley Burnette) and Professor Ezekial Daniels (Earle Hodgins) come to break him out. Together, the trio sets out to clear Gene's good name, capture Wolf Benson, and have the murder charge removed. Along with The Light Crust Doughboys, a western band that play themselves, Gene has several songs throughout the film to add to the story line.moreless
