Old Joy is the story of two longtime friends who go on a weekend camping trip in the Cascade Mountains. Kurt (Will Oldham) and Mark (Daniel London) haven't seen each other for a while and decide that a wilderness getaway will be just the thing to reinvigorate their friendship. The two friends have taken different paths in their lives: Kurt has had a nomadic, carefree existence, while Mark has settled down and is an expecting father. As the weekend moves along, Kurt and Mark discover that their friendship no longer has any basis. Mark and Kurt see the inadequacies in each other's existence, and feel for the other. They are living off of past memories, and they both see it all slipping away. Old Joy explores an interesting concept; two longtime friends who recognize that each of their lives are vastly different than during the peak of their friendship and come to the conclusion that, perhaps, the relationship has run its course.moreless
