Old Oklahoma Plains plays in 1926, at the end of the 'Old West' cowboy life dominated Oklahoma plains. The US army is in the middle of developing tanks which, they think, are to replace horses on the battle fields. In order to test the efficiency of tanks against horses, the army is determined to use grazing lands used by farmers for their cattle. Colonel Charles Bigalow (Russell Hicks) contacts Rex Allen (Rex Allen) a former cavalry man who now makes a living as rodeo performer, to convince local farmers to assist the cavalry with their exercises. In a town meeting, one of the farmers incites the other farmers to the point that negotiations are not possible: Rex and companions are beaten up upon arrival. Even though Rex and partners are injured, they continue clearing the land for the races. The tests eventually begin, but take a sour turn as Colonel Bigalow is injured in an explosion.
