Old Overland Trail is a classic western of the 1950s, starring legendary cowboy actor Rex Allen. Allen (playing himself), an agent of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, is sent west to investigate a string of attacks by the Apaches in Red Creek. Upon his arrival, Allen, his partner Slim Pickens (also playing himself), and the Republic Rhythm Riders (Michael Barton, Bud Dooley, Slim Duncan, and Darol Rice) are met by construction company head John Anchor (Roy Barcroft). Soon after, a wagon train is beset by a group of Apaches led by Chief Black Hawk (Leonard Nimoy), destroying the settlers' possessions. Anchor offers the settlers jobs to help, but in fact he has engineered the recent attacks in order to acquire cheap labor. Will Rex and Slim figure out Anchor's scheme, and stop Black Hawk? Rex Allen starred in more than 40 Disney westerns and was known for his narration of the Disney "Wonderful World of Color" nature shows.
