Movie Summary

Director:
Todd Phillips
Released:
2003
Rating:
R

Three thirty-something friends, Mitch, Frank and Bernard "Beanie" Campbell attempt to relive their college days by participating in an accidental fraternity. This happens when Mitch comes home from a business trip and finds out his girlfriend has been unfaithful. Unwilling to try and fix the relationship, Mitch moves out and subsequently ends up renting a home near his alma mater, Harrison University. His buddies, the recently married Frank and the unhappily married Beanie take advantage of Mitch's bachelor pad and through a big party. The party attracts a huge crowd and as a result the house is quickly turned into a fraternity. The new fraternity draws the attention of Dean Gordon "Cheese" Pritchard. Cheese is familiar with the three friends because they bullied him when they were younger. Bent on getting even, the dean vows to shut the house down. Will the friends be able to continue their partying ways, or will Dean Cheese shut them down?

Metacritic Score

  • 70

    Los Angeles Times Manohla Dargis

The disconnect between what men say and what they do makes Old School funnier than most of its gags and it also invests the movie with curious pathos.

  • 60

    Variety Dennis Harvey

This year's kinder, gentler "Animal House."

  • 50

The New York Times A.O. Scott

Like a half-empty glass of Coke that's been sitting out for a couple of days; sure, it looks like cola, but one sip tells you exactly what's missing.
