On Line is a romantic film about chat rooms and the way people connect to each other through the internet. John (Josh Hamilton) plays a computer whiz who begins an adult-themed website with his friend Moe (Harold Perrineau Jr.) after his fianc''e leaves him. As the two friends navigate online romance and sexuality, they become wrapped up in the world that they had initially set out to make money from. What they find is a blend of tragedy and excitement. For instance, Moira (Isabel Gillies), a depressed woman who looks in suicide chatrooms for love, while Ed Simone (Eric Millegan) is a young gay man who tries to escape the prejudice he faces in life by seeking companionship on the internet. John and Moe find themselves immersed in this world, searching for their own meaning, and discover that the internet has the capacity both to alienate and to bring people together.
