Once Around is a 1991 comedy-drama about a newly married couple struggling with the disapproval that some relatives express about their relationship. Renata (Holly Hunter), a young woman who lives with her parents in Boston, is about to get married when her fiance suddenly dumps her. On a whim, and hoping to forget about her failed engagement, she travels to the Caribbean for a seminar on selling real estate. There, she meets sales guru Sam Sharpe (Richard Dreyfuss), and the two fall for each other despite a wide age difference. Renata's father, Joe Bella (Danny Aiello), and mother, Marilyn, (Gena Rowlands), who have been married 34 years, disapprove of Renata's whirlwind romance. Worse, they fear that the charismatic but obnoxious Sam, whose gaffes include hiring belly dancers for a birthday party, is hiding something. When Renata announces that she is pregnant, Joe and Marilyn must decide whether they can set aside their differences with Sam.
