Once Upon a Time in Mexico is the third film in the Mariachi Film Trilogy. The film was released on September 12, 2003 and was directed by Robert Rodriguez. Once Upon a Time in Mexico involves a plot to kill the President of Mexico (Pedro Armend''riz Jr). Drug lord Armando Barillo (Willem Dafoe) is hired by General Emiliano Marquez (Gerardo Vigil) to kill the president. When CIA agent Sheldon Sands (Johnny Depp) learns of the plot, he calls upon El Mariachi (Antonio Banderas) to find and murder Armando Barillo. El Mariachi and his wife Carolina (Salma Hayek) know Marquez from years ago, when all three were involved in a shootout. The movie follows the paths of each of the men, most of whom are trying to kill the other.
