One Man's Hero is a film by director Lance Hool starring Tom Berenger. The film follows the history of the "St. Patrick's Battalion," commonly known as "San Patricios." San Patricios was a Irish immigrant regiment that deserted prejudicial treatment in the US. Army during the intense Mexican-American War. Captain John Riley (Tom Berenger) was one of these soldiers. Riley had initially been a part of the U.S. Army, but later deserted and joined the Mexican army to command his own battalion. Eventually, he must leave the Mexican Army and fight for his right to live against charges of desertion. Throughout the film, Riley faces a number of conflicts within himself in regards to his heritage, who exactly he is fighting for, if it was ever worth it to leave Ireland, and if he will ever be able to call a country his home. Riley's true character shows as he finds himself answering these questions.
