One Third of a Nation is a touching story about a successful man who finds his success is endangering many people he doesn't even know. The film begins when Peter Cortlant (Lief Erickson), a wealthy business man, helps a teenager (Joey Rogers) who was injured in an apartment fire. Corlant is horrified to find out that the building was unsafe, and that he was actually the owner. He begins a journey to find out more about the people who support his wealth and finds himself through meeting them. During his realization he begins to fall for the rescued teen's sister (Mary Peter) he is mesmorized by her wish to make the world a better place. His romance, along with his new understanding of the people who live as his tenants, leads Cortlant to reflect on how he has lived and will live his life. This film is an emotional and touching story about finding oneself and making the world a better place.
