One Tough Cop, released in 1998, is a powerful drama that tells a story of corruption in the police force. Based on the true story of New York City detective Bo Dietl (Stephen Baldwin), this fascinating movie is the tale of a cop and his friends with mob contacts. After Dietl and partner Duke Finnerly (Chris Penn) negotiate a hostage situation involving a man and his daughter, they visit their childhood friend Richie La Cassa (Mike McGlone). When Richie is discovered for being a member of the mob, Dietl and Finnerly attract the attention of FBI agents Burt Payne (Victor Slezak) and Jean Devlin (Amy Irving). When a nun is raped and tortured, the agents immediately start looking at Dietl and Finnerly as suspects. While Dietl tries to clear his good name and save Finnerly from his debts and drinking problems viewers learn valuable lessons about sticking by their friends and standing up for themselves. Filled with drama, suspense, and crime, this film by director Bruno Barreto is sure to keep viewers glued to their seats.
