Only the Strong is a 1993 action film directed by Sheldon Lettich. Louis Stevens (Mark Dacascos) returns to his hometown of Miami after serving in the military in Brazil. Besides for being a former Green Beret, Stevens is also a master of capoeira, a Brazilian martial art. He finds that his old high school is now overrun with drug dealers and gangs. When he literally kicks a group of drug dealers off of school grounds, several of the students are impressed and awed by his skills. Stevens takes on the challenge of teaching a group of 12 of the school's worst students capoeira, in an attempt to bring them around using structure and discipline. The program really starts to take off. Silverio (Paco Christian Prieto), the local drug kingpin, blames Stevens for the drop in his business. He is also a capoeira master, and he vows to beat Stevens through any means necessary.
