Open Window is a psychological drama written and directed by Mia Goldman that portrays an enduring romance between Izzy (Robin Tunney) and her fianc'' Peter (Joel Edgerton). The film opens in New York with Izzy, an up-and-coming fashion photographer, happily living her dream. She has found the perfect boyfriend in Peter, who proposes to Izzy, which she readily accepts. Peter decides to give Izzy an engagement present by cleaning out his old storage room and turning it into a studio for her to work. One day while Peter is away, Izzy mistakenly leaves the studio's window open, and a man enters and sexually assaults her. Peter returns and finds Izzy in the hospital, scared of everyone and withdrawn from the world. He learns that she feels guilty for leaving the window open, and he tries to help her recover, along with Izzy's mother (Cybill Shepherd). Their efforts fail, which leaves Izzy on the brink of losing everything she loves.
