Oregon Trail, made in 1945, begins when the Union Pacific Railroad is robbed of $50,000 of gold bullion. They hire two detectives, Captain Street (Lee Shumway) and Sunset Carson (Sunset Carson) to find and return the stolen fortune. The two decide that they will go undercover, with Street posing as a lawman on the hunt for outlaw Sunset Carson. Their hunt leads them to a small Kansas town, Gunsight, where Carson is unexpectedly made sheriff. The town was originally controlled by George Layton (Frank Jaquet), but is now controlled by Dalt Higgins (John Merton) who is secretly working for Harvey Dawson, who plans on taking over the town to profit on the railroad making its way into town, and his sidekick, Judge J. Frothingham Smythe (Earl Hodgins), who is also the secret head of the gang of robbers responsible for stealing the gold bullion. After he is shot in the back in the line of duty, Carson recovers and has a final shootout with the gang of robbers.moreless
