Our Family Wedding proves that when you tie the knot, you're saying "I do" to your beloved and the whole family. Lucia Ramirez (America Ferrera) is in love with Marcus Boyd (Lance Gross) but she's been afraid of how her Mexican-American family would react to her dating an African-American man. She's kept him away from her parents but when they become engaged, the two must work to bridge the cultural divide and navigate the obstacles that lead up to a wedding. Lucia's mother Sonia Ramirez (Diana Maria Riva) is planning the wedding of her dreams, regardless of Lucia's wishes. Their fathers, Brad Boyd (Forest Whitaker) and Miguel Ramirez (Carlos Mencia), are both highly competitive individuals with huge egos. The two butt heads and threaten to wreak havoc on the couple's happy day. Lucia and Marcus must band together and learn the true meaning of love in this 2010 Fox Searchlight Pictures film directed by Rick Famuyiwa.

Metacritic Score

  • 50

    Variety Justin Chang

This broad ethnic farce serves up a full-on culture collision, but -- thanks to a handful of diverting performers -- stops just short of becoming a train wreck.

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times Betsy Sharkey

Instead of invitations, they should be sending out apologies for Our Family Wedding, a cake-and-kisses comedy that has disaster written all over it and not for the right reasons.

  • 30

The New York Times Jeannette Catsoulis

Alternately rancid and ridiculous, strident and sickly sweet, Our Family Wedding"offers plenty that's old, borrowed and blue; it's the something new that's missing.
