Our Song is a dramatic film that comes to you from Jim McKay, a talented film director who has worked on great shows like The Wire and Big Love. Our Song tells the story of three best girl friends growing up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Lanisha (Kerry Washington), Maria (Melissa Martinez) and Joycelyn (Anna Simpson) are all in high school and actively participate in a local marching band. All three girls play an instrument and hope to someday be great musicians. However, the girls aren't as similar as they often appear. The girls vary in their lives at home, their crushes, their goals and interests, even their ethical stance. Upon its release in 2000, the film was met with great critical acclaim including a thumbs up from Roger Ebert who stated that the film was "original and perceptive".
