Our Winning Season is a 1978 coming-of-age film centered around a mediocre high school senior whose life takes a drastic turn when faced with the war in Vietnam. The period piece, which takes place in 1967, was directed by Joseph Ruben who's most famous works include The Stepfather, Sleeping with the Enemy, The Good Son, and Money Train. David Wakefield (Scott Jacoby) is a little lackluster in sports and his social life - he consistently places second in all of his track meets, and does not have the courage to ask out his all-time high school crush Alice (Deborah Benson). But with the onset of Vietnam War, tensions begin to build and a personal experience sends David in a new direction - one that might allow him to win his track meets, and possibly the woman of his dreams. The film also co-stars Hollywood classic Dennis Quaid in what would be one of his first movie roles. Our Winning Season incorporates just the right amounts of romance, drama, hope and competition. An excellent film recommended for all audiences.
