Paper Chasers is a 2003 cultural documentary examining the influence of hip hop music on entrepreneurs who have had success in various forms of media ranging from music to fashion. Director Maxie Collier and his production team travel across the country in an RV and documents the ambitions and failures of some of hip hop's most notable names. In addition to interviews with stars such as Fat Joe and Flavor Flav, Collier also follows the story of everyday people such as street rappers (who sell mixtapes out of their trunks) and hairdressers whose clientele is geared toward the urban market. The director also talks to rap superstar Ludacris just months before he signed a big record deal and became a household name. For all the insight, the documentary also shows how untouchable some of hip hop's top names are as Collier's crew document the tough time they had landing interviews with mega moguls such as Def Jam Founder Russell Simmons. The film combines all of these interviews with behind-the-scenes footage as Collier struggles to keep his production together through all the ups and downs of their low-budget production.moreless
