Movie Summary

Director:

Released:
2006
Rating:
R
Paprika is an animated science fiction film directed by Satoshi Kon based on Yasutaka Tsutsui’s novel of the same name that centers on the near future as psychotherapy takes a step forward with a new device called the DC Mini, a dream therapy tool that helps a user peek into the dreams of others, exploring and taking in their unconscious thoughts. Solely used by a group of doctors within a research facility, Dr. Atsuko Chiba breaks the law by using the DC Mini on others, utilizing her new persona of Paprika to help others. It’s a dangerous and sneaky game that she plays but when three devices are stolen before the final design was formed, anyone is at risk to have their dreams entered and tweaked. When the chief of the research department, Dr. Torataro Shima, becomes the first of the researchers nearly killed by these “dream terrorists”, Paprika discovers that the theft was a result of an inside job. Utilizing all of her skills as a brilliant psychotherapist combined with one of her patient’s talents as a detective, Paprika has to trace the hints in the victims’ subconscious to find out just who would want such a revolutionary device. A mesmerizing film, Paprika is a movie that at its core is meant to be experienced.moreless
