Passing Darkness finds Elaine Ways (Debra Hopkins) trying desperately to protect her young daughter, Samantha (Danielle Fazio), from mysterious evil forces. A cryptic phone call from Will (Don S. Davis) and Jessica (Andrea Thompson) pushes Elaine over the edge. She begins seeing visions of her dead husband Derek (Gerald Hopkins) in her apartment, foretelling of dark forces coming their way. Elaine must take up her Samurai sword to defend herself and her daughter. She is able to quickly defeat two intruders, but the final opponent is a highly skilled and sinister opponent. The 2005 film was directed by Kenneth Mader and written by Mader and Gerald Hopkins. It was an official selection at 12 international film festivals and won Best Short Film, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Editing at Movienation Film Festival. It also won for Female Action Performer of the Year at the Action on Film International Film Festival.
