Peaches is a 2004 Australian film directed by David Hirschfelder that tells the story of Steph (Emma Lung), an eighteen year old girl who lost her parents in a car crash when she was still a baby. Raised by her parent's overprotective best friend Jude (Jacqueline McKenzie), Steph receives her mother's diary on her eighteenth birthday as well as starts a new job at a local peach cannery. As Steph learns about her mother and father, she begins living in the past through her mother's eyes. Concurrently Steph is also building a romantic relationship with her boss at the cannery Alan Taylor (Hugo Weaving). Steph's romantic life must be kept secret from her overprotective stepparent, as their relationship might be deemed inappropriate. Also starring Matthew Le Nevez, Samantha Healy, Tyson Contor, Catherine Lambert, and Giang Le Huy, Peaches received moderate reviews from critics, with most commenting on the age difference between the Alan and Steph characters.
