People Will Talk is a 1951 comedy-drama starring Cary Grant and Jeanne Crain. The film centers on the unorthodox physician and college professor, Dr. Noah Praetorius (Cary Grant). Dr. Praetorius has a unique approach to medicine and an unconventional bedside manner which has made him well-loved among his patients and colleagues. However, there is one associate, Professor Rodney Elwell (Hume Cronyn), who is jealous of Praetorius' success and thus sets out on a mission to discredit the doctor. Elwell begins investigating curious aspects of the Doctor's past and uses what he learns to spread suspicion and to eventually force a faculty inquest of Praetorius' background. Praetorius takes the moral attack in stride and instead focuses on the budding romance between himself and his suicidal patient Deborah (Jeanne Crain). Deborah is distraught over becoming married out-of-wedlock and questions whether the Doctor's affections are based on love or pity. Dr. Praetorius must help Deborah as a patient and prove his love all while battling Professor Elwell's constant accusations.moreless
