Perestroika is a 2009 dramatic film directed by Slava Tsukerman, which revolves around the controversial life of a Soviet astrophysicist, Sasha Greenberg (Sam Robards), who immigrated to the United States 17 years ago to escape the communist regime and find proper conditions for his career development. With the Soviet Union no longer functional and the Perestroika era taking over Russian politics, Sasha sees an opportunity to return back to his home city Moscow in 1992, especially when he receives an invitation to give a lecture on cosmic physics. Although happy to see his home country after a long period of exile, Sasha realizes that the society has changed dramatically. The Russian society is torn between the old ways and the new capitalist policies, which throw the entire country in chaos and uncertainty. Professor Gross (F. Murray Abraham), Sasha's old friend and colleague, takes over the role of a protective guide who attempts to bring peace to his friend's troubled mind. Greenberg must focus on physics and lectures if he is to distract himself from the negative thoughts about Russia's current political turmoil.moreless
