Perfect Stranger is a 2007 psychological thriller from director James Foley (Confidence, The Corruptor) that stars Academy Award-winner Halle Berry, Bruce Willis, and Giovanni Ribisi in an exciting story about a reporter who goes after an advertising executive she suspects is guilty of murder, only to find herself trapped in a thick web of lies. Berry plays Rowena Price, an investigative journalist with a reputation for going all-out in her pursuits of high-profile criminals and deceivers. Her latest story has her researching a politician who is supposedly having homosexual affairs with his male interns, despite his anti-gay campaign. However, when her story gets crushed by her superiors, Price quits her job. However, she doesn't stay away from detective work very long, as she reconnects with an old friend who wants to expose the extra-marital affairs an ad exec (Willis) has been having. When her old friend turns up dead, Rowena sets her sights on taking down whoever is responsible.

Metacritic Score

  • 50

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

It is an acceptable enough thriller, neither the worst you've seen nor the opposite.

  • 30

The New York Times Stephen Holden

The director, as he showed in movies like "After Dark, My Sweet," and "Fear," specializes in conjuring conspiratorial atmospheres in which anxiety and sexual menace hang in the air...

  • 30

    Variety

A disorienting cocktail of illogic and hysteria that requires an 11th-hour soliloquy just to explain what's happened.
