Performance (1970) is a crime drama about a violent East London thug, Chas (James Fox), who gets himself in trouble with the gang leader, Harry Flowers (Johnny Shannon), by becoming involved in an old rivalry with Joey Maddocks (Anthony Valentine). As a result, Joey attacks Chas and trashes Chas' apartment. When it becomes clear to Chas that his life is in danger and Harry refuses to protect him, he escapes to the country side, changes his name, and takes up residence in the home of a washed-up rock star, Turner (Mick Jagger). Turner's home is also inhabited by two women, Pherber (Anita Pallenberg) and Lucy (Michele Breton), with which Turner has multiple and varying sexual experiences. Though Chas doesn't approve of Turner at first, due to his time spent in Turner's home, Chas becomes more open and accepting of Turner's lifestyle, eventually enjoying intimate moments with Pherber, exhibiting homophobic tendencies, becoming romantically involved with Lucy, and taking hallucinogenic drugs.
