Personal Effects is a 2009 drama based on a book by Rick Moody called Mansion on the Hill. The novel was adapted to screen by David Hollander, who also directed the film. Walter (Ashton Kutcher), a young and aspiring professional wrestler moves home after the murder of his sister Annie (Sarah Lind). He supports his mother Gloria (Katy Bates) by attending therapy sessions as they grieve over their loss. During one of the group meetings, Walter meets a attractive elderly woman named Linda (Michelle Pfeiffer) who is there because her husband died of alcoholism. After befriending Linda, Walter helps her handicap son Clay (Spencer Hudson) train in wrestling. Walter also joins Linda's non-profit wedding organization. By focusing on Linda and her son, Walter is able to overcome the death of his sister. The chemistry between Walter and Linda is electrifying and will draw you in.
