Petty Crimes is a film from French filmmaker Michel Ferry. It is the story of Michael (Jeremie Covillault), who embarks on a roller coaster path as he tries to embrace a life of reform. Previously a petty criminal in France, Michael hits the streets of New York City determined to turn a new leaf, albeit as an illegal alien. Life looks promising when he meets and begins romancing Zoe (Sarah Zoe Canner), a full-of-life law student with a penchant for rollerblading. With his budding romance seemingly on track, Michael's determination to live a straight-and-narrow life is in jeopardy via an expired visa that keeps the INS hot on his trail. To make matters worse, unfriendly contacts from his criminal past in France are looking for him. Can Michael stay true to a crime-free life, or is he destined to return to a life of petty crimes to raise enough cash to stay in the States? Find out in this 2002 portrayal of the immigrant experience.moreless
