Phase IV is a science fiction thriller from acclaimed director Saul Bass about mutant ants terrorizing the Earth. When scientists observe a cosmic event of unprecedented proportion, they race to determine what impact it will have on the planet. The first signs begin to appear in the Arizona desert. Dr. Ernest D. Hobbs (Nigel Davenport), an entomologist, notices that several species of ants which normally fight with one another are suddenly cooperating. Researchers flock to the desert to investigate the phenomenon and discover that the ants are going through several phases of mutations. The mutations become worrisome when the ants start forming strange, sophisticated structures in the desert. One of the scientists destroys several of the structures in an experiment and the ants fight back. As war wages between the humans and the ants, the scientists begin to discover how far the ants have truly evolved. Unfortunately for them, the ants are in Phase III, and Phase IV is yet to come.moreless
