Phoenix is a 1998 crime thriller directed by Briton Danny Cannon. Harry Collins (Ray Liotta) is a Phoenix police detective with a heart of gold. He came into the business to help people and bring about justice, but he soon finds that it is hard to avoid corruption. Collins' one weakness is a compulsive gambling habit. Although he struggles with guilt, the gambling truly comes back to haunt Collins when he winds up in massive financial debt to Chicago (Tom Noonan), a ruthless bookie who will do anything to get what is his. Desperate to find enough money to pay off his debts, Collins is willing to listen to Chicago's offer of a compromise. It turns out that Chicago only wants two things: either Collins hands over the money, or he assassinates a prisoner (Giovanni Ribsi) who knows a few too many secrets about Chicago. Instead, Collins comes up with a third plan, but it will take everything he has to pull it off.moreless
