Picnic is a 1955 romantic film that is the story of Hal Carter (William Holden), a charismatic drifter. He arrives in the small Kansas City town during the Labor Day festivities to look up his rich college friend, Alan (Cliff Robertson). Hal comes looking for a job or a handout. His good looks and muscular body catch the eye of the women in town, including his friend's fianc''e, Madge Owens (Kim Novak). Rosemary Sydney (Rosalind Russell) is the old maid schoolteacher who makes a fool of herself as she pursues Hal. Madge is the town beauty queen, and Hal is mysterious and sexy. The chemistry between them is unquestionable and nothing can stop them from having an affair. Friends and family paint Hal as an unscrupulous scoundrel; however, Madge is still considering breaking off her relationship with Alan.
