Pieces of April is a dramatic comedy that details the events of one Thanksgiving Day in New York City. April Burns (Katie Holmes) has been estranged from her family for years, but decides to invite them to Thanksgiving in her tiny Manhattan apartment after learning that her mother, Joy Burns (Patricia Clarkson) is dying of breast cancer. Desperate to make a good impression on her family, her boyfriend Bobby (Derek Luke) leaves April to make dinner by herself while he scours the city looking for a suit to wear. Meanwhile, her family's drive to Manhattan is constantly being delayed. Back at home, April is struggling to make a nice dinner for her family and Bobby, an effort made more difficult by the fact that her oven suddenly breaks down. Will Bobby find a suit? Will her family make it to dinner in time? And, more importantly, will April be able to make a dinner that brings everyone together for the first time in years?moreless
