Ping Pong Playa is a light hearted comedy about an aspiring young basketball player that has to play ping pong in order to help save the family business. Christopher 'C-Dub' Wang (Jimmy Tsai) is your "typical" Chinese American teenager, he loves hip hop and basketball, and dreams of some day playing in the NBA. But his family is definitely all about ping pong; his brother Michael (Roger Fan) is the reigning champ, his father was a champ, and his mother runs the family business, a ping pong school. When his mother and brother get in an accident, C-Dub is forced to help teach the classes, much to his chagrin and a substantial delay in his basketball career. Reluctantly he agrees, and finds himself quite a natural, not only at teaching but at playing as well. When he realizes he can still win the heart of his dream girl by becoming the ping pong champ, the race is on the be the best of the best. Jessica Yu directs this endearing and funny look at modern Asian American stereotypes, playing off the best and worst of them to create a fun time from start to finish.moreless
