Pioneers of the West is one of the many entries in William Colt MacDonald's The Three Mesquiteers series. In this edition, we follow the Three Mesquiteers as they have volunteered to lead a wagon train expedition to their new farms. Everyone aboard the caravan is understandably nervous, after losing their leader to an attacking band of Indians. That's where Stony Brooke (Robert Livingston), Rico Renaldo (Duncan Renaldo) and Rusty Joslin (Raymond Hatton) take charge. After guiding the settlers to their new homestead, they help the pioneers build their new homes, wrangle cattle to start herds and defend the new landowners against some local bandits that try to run them off. When appeals to the local law enforcement fall on the deaf ears of Sheriff Gorham (Joe McGuinn), they discover that the local judge (Noah Beery) is corrupt and has masterminded the effort to evict the new settlers, for his own greedy agenda. Lester Orlebeck directs this 1940 western.
