Plan Colombia: Cashing in on the Drug War Failure is a 2005 documentary directed by Gerard Ungerman and Audrey Brohy. This documentary takes an in-depth look at the governmental operation called "Plan Colombia" that was devised to help reduce the illegal import of cocaine into the United States. The video gives a detailed look at the major parts of this plan, including the spraying of coca fields with highly toxic pesticides and the millions of dollars given to Colombia to hire police officer to shut down cocaine smuggling. This film tries to determine if this plan is working and if there has been any type of decrease in the amount of cocaine that is entering the United States from Colombia. The film also takes a look at alternative methods that may be more effective, such as an increase of drug treatment programs in the United State to decrease the demand for cocaine. It also takes into account the availability of oil in Colombia and tries to see if there is a connection between oil and "Plan Colombia."moreless
