Platinum Blonde is a 1931 American romantic comedy film, directed by Frank Capra and starring Jean Harlow, Robert Williams, and Loretta Young. In the film, a reporter, Stewart "Stew" Smith (Robert Williams), meets a wealthy socialite, Anne Schuyler (Jean Harlow), while covering the story of her playboy brother's, Michael Schuyler (Donald Dillaway), latest scandal. Anne is impressed by Stew's morally upstanding handling of the story and the two soon fall in love. Anne's mother, Ms. Schuyler (Louise Closser Hale) does not think that Stew, with his low-class background, is good enough for her daughter and is absolutely horrified when the two elope. But married life is not all bliss for the couple, either-Anne tries to make Stew over into her vision of a gentleman, expensive garters and all, Stew squirms under criticism for not being the breadwinner, and a beautiful coworker, Gallagher (Loretta Young), has her eye on Stew. Platinum Blonde is no Cinderella story, but it is still full of romance and self-discovery.moreless
