Movie Summary

Alan Myerson
Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach is the 1988 installment of the much-loved law enforcement comedy franchise, starring Bubba Smith, David Graf, Michael Winslow, Leslie Easterbrook, Matt McCoy, G.W. Bailey, and George Gaynes in another hilariously ill-fated police adventure. Mean old Captain Harris is ecstatic when he learns he's finally going to be rid of Commandant Eric Lassard, the liberal-minded leader of the Police Academy whose policies have resulted in hordes of misfit cadets graduating from the training program. The aging cop is a year older than the age required for mandatory retirement, and he'll be honorably dismissed from the force. However, Lassard is invited to a convention in Miami Beach where he'll be recognized for his years of service, and he's bringing some of his favorite rebellious recruits with him. Police Academy 5: Assignment Miami Beach is another hysterical farce that's a must-see for fans of the previous Police Academy films.

I didn't laugh once during the entire film-not at the slapstick, not at the humor, all of which is pitched at the preschool level. [25 March 1988, p.A]
