Police Academy: Special Edition is a classic of 1980s action comedy. When a city's new mayor abolishes all standards for recruitment into the police force, the academy is flooded with recruits who definitely do not fit the mold of your average police officer. When Carey Mahoney (Steve Guttenberg) is arrested, he chooses to join the police force in lieu of jail time. Mahoney quickly befriends many of the new recruits, including talented mimic Larvell Jones (Michael Winslow), the unstable Eugene Tackleberry (David Graf), and the imposing and gigantic Moses Hightower (Bubba Smith). Unhappy with the changes in recruitment policy, Lieutenant Thaddeus Harris (G. W. Bailey) does everything he can to get the new misfit recruits to quit, with mixed results. Also featuring the unforgettable Commandant Eric Lassard (George Gaynes) and Cadet Karen Thompson (Kim Cattrall), Police Academy is a comedy classic, and spawned an entire franchise of sequels with its brand of humor.
