Polish Wedding is a comedy drama set in the Polish community of Hamtramck, Michigan, outside of Detroit. The Pzoniak family is led by Jadzia (Lena Olin), a cleaning lady, and Bolek (Gabriel Byrne), a baker. They have four sons, and one daughter, Hala (Claire Danes). The film focuses primarily on the women of the Pzoniak household and how they effect the Polish community. Jadzia has a long-term affair with Roman ( Rade Sebedzija), a successful businessman. Jadzia claims she only turns to Roman due to Bolek's passive nature and neglect of her desires. She resents her marriage; she only married Bolek because she was pregnant. Hala, similar to her mother, is unable to control her impulses. She tempts fate by having a tryst with neighbor Russell Schuster (Adam Trese), a police officer. After discovering that Hala is pregnant, the family bands together to make sure that Russell does the right thing. Will Hala refuse the same path as her mother or will a Polish wedding solve the all the family's moral problems?moreless
