2009
Rating:

Powder Blue is a dramatic film which seamlessly intertwines several seemingly independent story arcs into one comprehensive story. The movie was cleverly written and directed by Vietnamese filmmaker Timothy Linh Bui who also used a stellar cast to create his film. The cast includes Jessica Biel, Forest Whitaker, Patrick Swayze, Ray Liotta and Lisa Kudrow, to name a few. The paths of several Los Angeles inhabitants intersect one Christmas Eve as they each experience a certain kind of loss or pain. Rose-Johnny (Jessica Biel) is a dancer at a nightclub owned by a seedy man named Velvet (Patrick Swayze). Her son is in a coma, and a shy mortician (Eddie Redmayne) falls deeply in love with her. Jack Doheny (Ray Liotta) is a mobster whose criminal efforts are thwarted by Randall (Kris Kristofferson), head of a crime organization. Jack is father to Rose-Johnny. Charlie (Forest Whitaker) is a disillusioned ex-priest who contemplates killing himself. Lastly, Lexus (Alejandro Romero) is a dirty transvestite prostitute who befriends the hopeless Charlie.
