Power examines the maneuvering and scheming that take place in the background of prominent political campaigns. Produced in 1986, Power is the story of Pete St. John (Richard Gere), owner of a public relations firm and a highly successful and formidable political consultant. St. John, for a substantial fee, shapes and packages political candidates across the United States, as well as in Central and South America, so that they win their races. Ohio senator Sam Hastings (E.G. Marshall) is a friend and client who suddenly decides to leave the political arena. St. John is charged with helping Jerome Cade (J.T. Walsh), a political unknown, to take over Hastings' senatorial seat. During the campaign, St. John works with an unscrupulous public relations expert, Arnold Billing (Denzel Washington), which causes him to reflect on his own actions. In the midst of working on multiple campaigns, St. John pairs up with his ex-wife, Ellen Freeman (Julie Christie), a prominent journalist, to discover the true reason Hastings left office.moreless
