Precious is a 2009 American drama movie, based on the novel Push by Sapphire, starring Gabourey Sidibe, MoNique, Paula Patton, and Mariah Carey, with financial backing from Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey. In the award-winning film, Claireece Precious Jones (Gabourey Sidibe) is an obese, illiterate, unhappy 17 year old girl who lives in the ghetto of Harlem with her physically, sexually, and mentally abusive unemployed mother, Mary (MoNique). Pregnant for the second time with her fathers baby, Precious is expelled from her school and enrolled in an alternative school program. The film follows Precious as she tries to defeat the odds and take back her right to a fair chance at life, despite all of the setbacks"from a baby with Downs syndrome, to unfit parents, to surviving on welfare.
