Prelude to Fame is a 1950 film adapted from the short story "Young Archimedes" by Aldous Huxley. It tells the captivating story of a young peasant boy, Guido (Jeremy Spenser) identified as possessing the musical talent and awareness of a true genius. Initially discovered by a philosophy professor, John Morrell (Guy Rolfe), who recognizes his incredible talent, Guido is taken under the wing of a childless patron of the arts, Signora Bondini (Kathleen Byron). She becomes obsessed with his talent and pushes him forward as a musical child prodigy. Morrell later regrets the sequence of events that follows his recognition of Guido's musical talent. The story raises questions about childhood and developing talent - questions that are still relevant in today's society. Overall the movie portrays a sad story of a musical genius and a lost childhood. Classical music lovers will be kept happy and entertained throughout the film which features the London Philharmonic Orchestra of the day; and music by renowned composers including Beethoven, Berlioz and Bach.moreless
