Pretty Woman is a 1990 romantic comedy film by director Garry Marshall, perhaps one of the greatest roles of Julia Roberts' film career. Roberts is Vivian Ward, a Hollywood Boulevard hooker who receives a once-in-a-lifetime chance when wealthy bachelor Edward Lewis (Richard Gere) offers to pay her a very generous sum to act as his escort to classy social functions. Gone are the thigh-high boots, the barely-there miniskirts, and the long nights of misery. Vivian receives a makeover fit for a princess and regular pampering to match as she finds herself flung into Lewis's high-class life. In exchange for the best time of her life, Vivian plays her role as Lewis' significant other well'the business arrangement is truly a win-win situation. But as the two begin to spend more and more time together, fate throws a wrench into their plans: the two start to fall in love. Can a common prostitute and a ruthless corporate raider really live happily ever after? Pretty Woman is a classic that fans revisit over and over again.
