Pride & Glory is a 2008 crime drama about a police family torn apart by conspiracy and corruption. The film, directed by Gavin O'Connor, follows the story of the Tierney family, primarily two brothers: Ray (Edward Norton) and Jimmy Egan (Colin Farrell). Ray and Jimmy always butt heads. Jimmy is a rough and tough kind of guy willing to whatever it takes to get things done. Ray is strictly by the books and doesn't like to do anything remotely on the edge of illegal. When the police department gets a call about four downed officers in the projects, both brothers bolt to the scene of the crime. In a drug infested apartment they find dead gangsters and dead police officers. At first everything seems to be straight, but when Ray looks closer at the details of the murders he starts to realize that his step-brother Jimmy might have a little something to do with everything. Tracking the clues, Ray finds out that Jimmy has been skimming money off of drug dealers for some time now and doesn't want to take the fall for the dead officers. The film ends in a violent confrontation between the two and some unruly street thugs that know of Jimmy's crooked ways. The film is a dark and gritty representation of the corrupt police underbelly that exists in almost every department. The film also stars Jon Voight and Noah Emmerich.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 50

The New York Times A.O. Scott

Not especially good, but there is enough rough artistry in Mr. O'Connor's direction to make you wish the film were better.

  • 50

    Variety Todd McCarthy

Feels like a film that should have been made at least 25 years ago. Or made as a period piece. Heavy, doom-laden and, unfortunately, entirely predictable.

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times Carina Chocano

The movie is as histrionic as it is ham-fisted, a bad combination that leads to scenes such as the one in which officers threaten to torture a baby to get their point across.
