Pride and Prejudice is a film adaptation of Jane Austen's novel of the same name. Produced in 1940, the film was awarded an Academy Award for best art direction in a black and white movie. About the five unmarried Bennet sisters, the film begins as two wealthy eligible bachelors move into town: Mr. Bingley (Bruce Lester) and Mr. Darcy (Laurence Olivier). Mr. and Mrs. Bennet (Edmund Gween and Mary Boland), who are excited about the arrival of the two men, urge their daughters to make the acquaintance of the bachelors. Elizabeth Bennet (Greer Garson) subsequently meets Mr. Darcy at a dance, and she is immediately charmed. However, she refuses to dance with him out of pride. Over time, though, the relationship between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth deepens, leading Mr. Darcy to ask Elizabeth to marry him. She refuses, leading to a heated argument and the two lovers going their separate ways. Yet, the two find each other again as Elizabeth discovers her deep love for Mr. Darcy.moreless
