Private Hell 36 is a crime drama released in 1954 about two detectives from Los Angeles, Cal Bruner (Steve Cochran) and Jack Farnham (Howard Duff) who find themselves caught in the supreme game of cops and robbers; the film also features Dean Jagger as Police Captain Michaels, and a young Dorothy Malone as Francey Farnham. After recovering the $300,000 of stolen cash, Detective Cal Bruner attempts to pay for the expensive lifestyle of his girlfriend, Lilli Marlowe (Ida Lupino), by taking a third of the money before they turn it into the police. Detective Bruner hides the money in a trailer parked in lot 36 of a local trailer park, hence the name of the movie. When his partner, Detective Jack Farnham, finds out about Bruner's indiscretion, he attempts to convince Bruner to tell the truth about taking the money. There are several subplots that take place along the way, all centered around the stolen money, police, nightclub singer Lilli Marlowe, and one of the men who was in the original robbery.moreless
