Project X is a science fiction thriller about a government program that experiments on chimpanzees and the graduate student and Air Force pilot who try to rescue them from it. She believes that the chimpanzee she is teaching is going to be relocated to a zoo, but instead it is secretly sent to an Air Force research facility. There the chimp meets Airman Jimmy Garrett (Matthew Broderick), a hotshot pilot who is part of the government's top-secret chimpanzee program. Garrett believes that the chimps are being taught how to fly jets, but eventually learns that they are being tested to see how much radiation a human being can endure before dying. At the same time, Garrett realizes that his chimp can speak via sign language so he finds Teri MacDonald and, together, the two of the fight to break the chimps out of the research facility. Will they succeed before the military catches on to their plan?
